Pet Savings

We expanded our family today by 2.  Johnny and Cash (2 male kittens) have joined our chaos.

I have been wanting to adopt a kitten for some time now, but cost has been a factor for sure.  All the supplies needed is just crazy.  I looked at Rescue Centers, and the local Animal Shelter.  The Rescue Center wanted $150 per kitten.  OUCH!  That didn't include supplies.  I knew there were kittens out there that need homes.  So, I posted on FB just last night that I was searching for one.  Within just a couple of hours I had a few friends that responded with leads.  By 9am this morning they were ours... FREE!  That's a SAVINGS of $300!  I like that!  Now, these kittens are not fixed yet and they don't have their shots.  However, I know that I can do that at a local pet clinic for far cheaper than $150 each.
After we picked up Johnny and Cash, we went to Petsmart.  I am crazy about cutting coupons, so even though I didn't have any pets currently, I already had coupons for food and kitty litter cut and in my coupon binder (I saved $4.00 just by having my coupons on hand and ready to go).  When I entered the store the first place I went to was the clearance section (That's usually my first stop in most stores).  I bought one of those little kitty condos regularly priced $89.99 for only $30.  It was marked down to $49.99 and the wood on it was split and cracked so they gave me another $19.99 off just because I asked!   I LOVE IT!  Don't feel weird about asking for additional discounts.  All they can do is say NO, but more often than not, they are willing to give you an additional percentage off.  My savings at Petsmart today was 45%.  I bought everything I needed for 2 kittens and I bought it ALL on Sale.  It is possible to get significant savings with your pets.
Helpful Tips:
1) For a new animal.... Ask your friends and family.  You might be able to get your pet FREE.  FaceBook and Twitter are a great way to get the word out.

2)  Get shots, registration, and any surgeries you need to have done at a local community pet clinic.  It's always more expensive to do it at a Vet's office.

3) Check the clearance section for supplies.  Your pets don't need the newest and the greatest.  remember that the stuff in clearance was the newest and greatest just a couple months prior.

4)  Use coupons.  Every dollar counts.

Alright... I give. Here we go.

So, I have really fought this whole blog thing.  I really don't think I have all that much to say.  I guess we will see where this goes.

Here is my first exciting post.  I had a store "Catalina" Coupon that was going to expire today.  It was $3 off any purchase.  I had another of the same type for $1 off.  I was out of Drumsticks... so naturally  I had to stop and buy some.  In addition to the 2 Catalina's, I had a $1/1 Drumstick Coupon.  I ended up paying $.99 for an 8 pack of Drumsticks that were originally $5.99.  With that... I start my Blog!  I saved 85%.  I LOVE COUPONS!
